The Health Care Environment and Physiatric Practice

Abstract

The future health care environment will demand that physiatrists serve more patients, achieve improved outcomes, and use fewer resources per case. These demands will result in altered patterns of service delivery and payment. For the foreseeable future, practices will deal with significant variation among the organizations controlling their payments. Physiatrists will succeed if they can show to payers that they contribute significantly to clinical outcomes and cost savings when managing high-cost cases.
