Abstract
Abstract The energy loss of heavy ions in a gold target is discussed on the basis of an oscillator model of atomic stopping. The model is valid for all strengths of interaction, but it does not include charge exchange and screening. The theoretical results are compared to the Bloch formula and to experiments.
