Abstract
Abstract : The theory of the vibrational energy relaxation and dissociation of the nitrogen molecule is formulated. The appropriate rates are developed for the harmonic (HO) and anharmonic oscillator (AHO) models. Specifically, a V-T rate for T 2000 K is recommended. Comparison is made in the rate of the HO and AHO models indicating that relaxations in the AHO model is more rapid compared to that of the HO model.
