Abstract
Abstract The road hazards have frequently happened in the loess region in Ningxia autonomous region. The reason for this phenomenon is that the loess under the roads has always changed because of its properties, such as collapsibility, and leads to the instability of the geological structure. Detection of the loess under the roads can obtain the information about the geological structure and identify potential road hazard regions, which has great significance. Therefore, in this paper, we conducted a field experiment about road hazard in loess region using ground penetrating radar (GPR) and electrical resistivity tomography (ERT). The field experiment demonstrated that each method can be used in the detection and identification of potential road hazard but limited in their different detection capabilities, but better results can be obtained by using both methods comprehensively.
