Abstract

As she walks down the street in her usual flurry, Claudia hears her nameIt's her sculptor friend, waving and yelling From across the street: Hey Claudia, Ijust had a day When everything I touched turned to gold. Claudia gives her the thumbs-up sign, Smiles, and turns the corner, Amazed at the ease of some people. Freeze them at any moment, snap their pictures, And they're snug in the center of some universe She's never visited, who can Hardly take a step Without pausing to reconsider: Do the wash? Fall in love? All the while, her teacher's voice in her head, Trying to cut through the static: Remember, my dear, the Greeks said the prize Was not happiness, but contentment.
