Abstract

The war in Ukraine and the global energy crisis have brought the geopolitics of gas into stark relief. Recent promises of a ‘Golden Age of Gas’ and energy independence among countries extracting gas through fracking have not materialized. Anthropology addresses these contradictions and the various effects of changes in society's vital essence. Research demonstrates that the energy crisis is not just a distribution problem in uncertain times. It is symptomatic of our overheated world and the existential challenges we face on our finite planet.
