Abstract

For a major agricultural country, Australia has had a mediocre performance in adding value to their agriculture production base. Major changes are making it more probable that Australia will more effectively compete. Key changes in the globalization of business are in communication, transportation, world money markets, labor skills, labor relocation, and accelerating technology. Globalization of agribusiness is “leveling the agricultural playing field”. Global demand shifts favor Australian agribusiness. Current improvement in Australia's position comes from urbanization of Asia and the restructuring of the Soviet food system. The challenges for Australia's agribusiness are great, but most can be converted into opportunities.
