Abstract
April 1984 Plenum of the CPSU Central Committee endorsed the final version of The Fundamental Directions of General Education and Vocational School Reform [Osnovnye napravleniia reformy obshcheobrazovatel'noi i professional'noi shkoly] (revised to take account of the suggestions and observations made during the public debate); supported in all respects the seminal position statements made, and the conclusions drawn, on issues relating to the development of public education which were contained in the speech that comrade Konstantin U. Chernenko, General Secretary of the CPSU Central Committee, gave to the Plenum; and pointed out the need to make those position statements and conclusions the basis of the activity undertaken by Party, soviet and economic bodies, social organizations, and labor collectives.
