Abstract

The General Bathymetric Chart of the Oceans (GEBCO) is a successful example of international cartographic co-operation. It originated in the last year of the nineteenth century, and its fourth edition is in course of publication. This paper traces the development of the series, in terms both of its cartography and of the organisation of its production.
