Abstract
Australian astronomy has a bright future, thanks largely to recent government investments in major new telescopes, instruments and research centres. There are some short-term challenges as Australia’s focus continues to shift from the current (mainly) national facilities for radio and optical astronomy to new multinational and global facilities. Australian astronomy has a bright future due to recent investments in major new telescopes, instruments and research centres.
