Abstract

Observations on the photographic reproduction of fine line, edge and sine-wave test images show that while the spatial frequency or sine-wave response function of the process is independent of image configuration in the absence of chemical diffusion effects this is not always the case in their presence, the response for the high-frequency components being higher for the reproduction of edge and fine-line images than for sine-wave images. A possible explanation of this result and its consequences is suggested.
