Abstract

The French Power System (60 000 MW peak load for a single company) is operated in a hierarchical way, with two data transmission networks, one national and seven regional control centers. The development of the energy control system is performed in house. In particular, a new real time computer system has recently been committed for the national control center. It mainly includes SCADA, LFC, state estimation, security analysis and an open-loop secure economic dispatch. Extensions are under development, power schedule updating and optimal power flow applications (short term), a secure automatic generation control using more powerful computers (long term).
