Abstract
Field measurements of sulphur dioxide and ammonia concentrations were taken to point out the formation of sulphates in the presence of SO2, NH3 and liquid water. Monthly average data showed two opposite seasonal trends; high winter levels for sulphur dioxide and high summer levels for ammonia. The amounts of SO 4 −− calculated applying the Junge and Ryan laboratory model are reliable especially if they are compared with SO 4 −− field measurements observed in 1972, 1973 and 1974.
