Abstract

This paper summarizes the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service continuing education program in fish husbandry and fisheries management at the Fisheries Academy. The primary objective of the Academy is to supplement and extend the basic capabilities of biologists in fisheries. This goal is being achieved by providing effective instruction through modern instruction methods on current theories and techniques in fisheries. The staff of the Academy provides the coordination for design, delivery, and evaluation of the training courses, which are tailored to meet the needs of the biologists in the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, other federal agencies, state conservation agencies, foreign governments, and other groups. A systems approach is used in adapting the appropriate training process or processes to meet the needs of biologists and in determining whether training objectives are met.
