Abstract

This paper series aims at improving general knowledge about what led to recent global financial and economic crisis, how crisis unfolded and what EU has done and is currently doing to mitigate its consequences and to ensure that a similar situation will not happen again in future.This third block, the regulatory reform of single market for financial services explains and puts into perspectives comprehensive regulatory agenda that was undertaken mainly by former Directorate General for Internal Market and Services – DG MARKT (the current Directorate General for Financial Markets, Financial Stability and Capital Markets Union – DG FISMA) of European Commission. While a few initiatives such as Banking Union have widely been communicated, many other initiatives are less known by general public. This block provides an overview of various legislative initiatives including single rulebook, supervision, consumer and investor protection, credit rating agencies, market structures, etc.
