Abstract

This paper series aims at improving the general knowledge about what led to the recent global financial and economic crisis, how the crisis unfolded and what the EU has done and is currently doing to mitigate its consequences and to ensure that a similar situation will not happen again in the future. This third block, “the regulatory reform of the single market for financial services” explains and puts into perspectives the comprehensive regulatory agenda that was undertaken mainly by the former Directorate General for Internal Market and Services – DG MARKT (the current Directorate General for Financial Markets, Financial Stability and Capital Markets Union – DG FISMA) of the European Commission. While a few initiatives such as the Banking Union have widely been communicated, many other initiatives are less known by the general public. This block provides an overview of the various legislative initiatives including the single rulebook, supervision, consumer and investor protection, credit rating agencies, market structures, etc.See full text paper at: http://ssrn.com/abstract=2583525.
