Abstract

The paper reports on the results of a complex study of the structural structure changes in the prefracture zone and the formation of fatigue cracks under multicycle fatigue loading for the steels Kh12F1 and 12Kh18N10T ion the state of metastable and stable austenite. It is demonstrated by electron-backscatter diffraction (EBSD) analysis that before crack initiation and during crack evolution there is strain localization characterized by martensitic transformation. Magnetic characteristics show that, both for chromium-nickel steel with stable austenite and for chromium steel with metastable austenite, the process of crack nucleation and growth is accompanied by the formation of the magnetic α-phase.
