Abstract

The feasibility of ecology studying for senior secondary school with emphasis in a humanities and social science field within the context of sustainable development was justified. Using questionnaire method comparative assessment of knowledge about the ecology at senior secondary school in Uzhhorod was tested. It should also pointed out, pupils both of natural science and humanities education took part in questionnaire. Uzhhorod Classical Gymnasium and Uzhhorod Specialized Boarding School with in-depth study of some subjects took part in the survey.It was found that ecology, biology, chemistry and geography classes contribute to the environmental upbringing and raising of high schoolers environmental education. Also, a positive effect was given by extracurricular activities: excursions to nature, environmental forums and conferences, the work of scientific school clubs on environmental conservation, etc.Totally 123 high school pupils took part in a sociological questionnaire survey.The survey questionnaires for senior pupils consisted of 20 questions. There were four answers for each question.The results of the questionnaire-testing have been shown a sufficient level of high school pupils knowledge in the field of ecology, although they did not reach the highest result. Studies have been shown that the most pupils of natural science classes with thorough studying Ecology discipline, have an average (57%) and high (36%) level of knowledge about the environment. At the same time, in the humanities classes, 63% of students have an average level of knowledge and only 8% - high.Thus, students thoroughly studying the fundamentals of ecology have higher level of environmental knowledge than students of humanities. It proves the necessity of compulsory study of ecology by high schoolers in the social and humanitarian field of study in all types of schools.Ecologization of all educational disciplines, both humanitarian and natural, will increase the level of environmental consciousness of senior pupils.
