Abstract

This book by the ophthalmologic staff of the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto is an extremely complete and practical coverage of the subject. This hospital with over 800 beds of which 35 are for eye patients is reported to be the largest children's hospital in the Western Hemisphere. With more than 11,000 visits to the Ophthalmic Out-Patient Department and more than 1,500 admissions annually, the observations of the staff are certainly based on an extensive clinical experience. Beginning with a short chronologically oriented chapter on the development of the eye, the book covers the examination of a child's eye, refraction, strabismus, orthoptics, diseases of the various constituent parts of the eye and adnexa, and concludes with the education of the child with defective vision.
