Abstract

In acetic acid and/or hydrochloric acid solutions the extraction of Th, Np, Pu and Am with sodium amalgam was investigated by use of the same procedure as in the case of previous uranium extraction. The results indicate that Np, Pu and Am were extracted in high yields (⪆95 per cent) from acetic acid solutions and plutonium amalgam containing 50 mg/ml Hg was obtained. Thorium was not extracted from acetic acid solutions, but it was slightly extracted from hydrochloric acid solutions.
