Abstract
Objective To study the expression and significance of WWOX gene in thyroid cancer tissue.Methods WWOX expression was evaluated by immunohistochemistry in 81 patients(50 thyroid cancers,31thyroid adenoma and 20 normal thyroid tissues).The correlation of WWOX expression and histopathology findings and clinical characteristics was analysed.Results The average integral optical value of WWOX in thyroid cancer.thyroid adenoma and normal thyroid tissues was 50.86±6.05,70.95±4.23 and 87.77±8.46 respectively.The WWOX expression in thyroid cancer specimens was lower than in the other two kinds of thyroid tissues(P 0.05).Conclusions WWOX gene expression was downregulated in thyroid cancer tissues.The loss of WWOX protein expression plays important role in tumorigenesis of thyroid cancer.
