Abstract

SUMMARY The infusion of urea unilaterally through the renal portal system of the fowl results in a greater excretion of urea on the infused side. This is due mainly to a diuresis caused by the diffusion of urea. A similar unilateral response is shown by uric acid, but this is accounted for by differences in concentration rather than in volume. The value of renal portal infusion as a test of tubular secretion is discussed.
