Abstract

We have measured the cross sections for elastic and inelastic scattering of electrons by N 14. A number of inelastic peaks appear in the spectra which are attributed to scattering with excitation of the levels of N 14. The electric or magnetic multipole order of the corresponding transitions is determined from the dependence of the inelastic form factor on scattering angle and momentum transfer. Besides leading to partial reduced transition probabilities the results indicate the nature of the dominant configurations forming the excited states which we have studied. The results are compared with theoretical predictions.
