Abstract

The work is based on refl ections on the performing style of the outstanding Russian pianist K. N. Igumnov. The context of the work includes statements about Igumnov by D. A. Rabinovich, G. M. Kogan, Ya. I. Milshtein and modern researchers. The emphasis is on the pianist’s interpretation of the works of P. I. Tchaikovsky. The role of Igumnov as the founder of a large pianistic school is emphasised. The author of the paper also considers the transformation of Igumnov’s artistic attitudes in the creative activity of his students and in the performing style of modern pianists.
