Abstract

This article presents the results of the Chilean chapter of the 3rd OBITEL (Ibero-American Televised Fiction Observatory) Report for 2008. These reports seek to explain the production and broadcast of fiction on television in a format that allows the comparison of trends in ten Ibero-American countries that participated in the project. The results presented here were obtained from a quantitative analysis that considered the variables relative to the production, exhibition, and format/genre of fiction programs aired on Chilean television during 2008. This report quantifies the production and exhibition of Chilean, Latin American, and US fiction in order to establish itself as a tool for properly measuring the development of the national industry as well as to detect medium-term trends.
