Abstract

China's rapid economic growth brings about prosperity in the retail industry, but also presents challenges to China's energy supply. How to improve energy efficiency is playing an increasingly prominent role. Based on the statistics during 2007–2009, the author analyzes the retail industry's energy consumption, which mainly concentrates on lighting, air-conditioning, and refrigerating and freezing, and the main focus of energy conservation efforts. With the higher demand of energy conservation, the retail industry has begun to seek new energy-saving methods, including using new energy, cutting energy consumption at every link of the entire supply chain, and educating consumers in green consumption. The author also uses the analytic hierarchy process to evaluate the contributions of social responsibility, technology, finance, and policy support to improve energy efficiency sustainability. It is concluded that to enhance the energy saving sustainability of the retail industry, as financing approaches, technology adaptability and policy support should be optimized.
