Abstract

The European Union (EU) is one of the major exports market for Namibian products. This market is particularly attractive; it offers preferential access to high-priced markets. Under the Lome Convention Agreement Namibia was granted duty free access of 13,000 metric tons of beef products per annum. The Namibia government has refused to sign the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPAs) with the EU, as a result, the preferential duty free market access of Namibia to EU is under threat, and this implies that Namibia might possibly lose its duty free access of 13,000 metric tons to the EU market. Thus Namibia is expected to face the imposition of tariffs on its beef products exported to the EU markets.
