Abstract

This article uses the relative market power hypothesis to analyze the relationship between the China's rice seed market structure and performance of agricultural production between 2003 and 2008. The results show that the China's rice seed market has evolved into a competitive market after the market-oriented reforms in China seed market. The rice seed market concentration decreased significantly. The market share has a positive effect on the level of agricultural production. The Herfindahl index has not significantly affect the level of agricultural production, which is consistent with the relative market power hypothesis.
