Abstract

The contact of metals and alloys with a liquid metal medium under conditions of an external load or the presence of internal residual stresses may be the reason for their catastrophic failure with reduced residual deformation and stresses. This phenomenon has obtained the name of liquid-metal embrittlement. Occasionally it is considered as a particular case of brittle fracture in general [i, 2].
