Abstract

The electron-capture decay of Gd149 has been studied with an intermediate-image β-ray spectrometer, scintillation spectrometers, prompt and delayed coincidence techniques and directional correlation measurements. The previously reported 650 and 937 keV transitions were found to be composite 646 and 660 keV, and 933 and 940 keV transitions. The assignment of 750 and 790 keV transitions to this activity was confirmed. Energy levels in Eu149 are proposed at 0 keV (52+), 150 keV (72+), 423 keV, 497 keV (112−, T12 = 2.42 μs), 750 keV (52, 92−), 796 keV (92), 940 keV (52, 72, 92), 958 keV and 1083 keV. A gamma-gamma directional correlation on the (347 keV)–(150 keV) cascade is consistent with thepossibility of mixed multipolarity for either or both of the transitions.
