Abstract

Net absorption and accumulation of d-galactose, β-methyl d-glucose and low concentrations of 3-O- methyl- d- glucose by sheets of rabbit ileum are observed even when Na + in the mucosal solution is replaced by choline. This indicates that active sugar transport can occur in the direction opposite to the brush-border Na + gradient.
