Abstract

Energy conversion is a crucial requirement of renewable energy systems. The DC-AC inverters are essential devices to convert the generated energy of wind turbines and solar panels. Multilevel Inverters (MLI) have wide application areas in the industry. There are numerous digital control techniques used for multilevel inverters. Nowadays, digital signal processors (DSP) are the most popular controllers for MLI control algorithms. Programming a DSP requires some specifications such as algorithm, coding and compiling the program. Matlab/Simulink software is often used in simulation of engineering systems. This software has some properties to program DSPs by using Simulink blocks. Therefore, researchers do not need programming DSPs by coding, and can be able to perform experiments rapidly. In this study, 3-level cascaded H-Bridge MLI is realized by using DSP with programming Simulink. The total harmonic distortion (THD) of the MLI must be decreased for pure sinusoidal wave. Proportional resonant (PR) control is implemented in MLI for this purpose. The PR control, which decreases THD of the system, is one of the most recent current control methods. In this paper, effect of PR control is analyzed in simulation and experimental studies. It is obtained from results that the PR control can be able to decrease the THD, especially the low order harmonics.
