Abstract

The unified time delay model 1 is applied to the problem of describing the effects of intrasolid resistance and axial mixing on the outlet response to disturbances in the inlet concentration during steady flow in packed beds. It is shown that all the principal effects exhibited by more conventional models are reproduced by the unified time delay model. Advantages that accrue using this approach are that the model can be formulated in a way which is not very dependent on particle shape. A time-domain impulse response solution is obtained in which the influence of particle shape appears as a parameter.
