Abstract
This paper presents results from a series of parametric studies to quantify the effect sof frame continuity on the behaviour of steel columns under fire conditions. These studies were carried out using a finite element analysis computer program developed at the Building Research Establishment as part of a research programme to investigate the behaviour of steel structures under fire conditions. The main conclusion in this paper is that although the structural interaction between different elements in steel frames is very complicated, it is possible to find a simple way to deal with this behaviour for design purpose when the main design interest is the calculation for the column limiting temperature.
