Abstract

Due to the evolution of distributed generation (wind power plants, photovoltaic panels, etc.), the short-circuit power in medium voltage networks is constantly increasing. Such a short circuit power can affect the components of the electrical network. Therefore, an effective solution is required to protect them against electrodynamic and thermal forces generated by the high value of the short-circuit current. A solution that can be used in medium voltage networks is represented by the solid-state current limiter. This paper highlights the solid-state current limiter effects on an electrical network. Also highlights how the presence of the current limiter influences the protections of the power line.
