Abstract

Review question/objective: 1. Is preferred or familiar music listening effective in reducing behavioural and psychological symptoms of institutionalised older adults with all types of dementia? 2. For institutionalised older adults with all types of dementia what is the evidence about the: a. Frequency of use of preferred or familiar music listening; b. Length of preferred or familiar music listening per session. Inclusion criteria: Types of participants: This review will consider studies that include adults aged 65 or older and diagnosed with all types of dementia who exhibit behavioural or psychological symptoms living in long-term care institutions. Behavioural or psychological symptoms to be included: agitation; aggressive behaviours; aggression, disruptive behaviours, anxiety; depression. Types of intervention(s)/phenomena of interest: This review will consider studies that evaluated preferred or familiar music listening.
