Abstract

The main goal of this study was to investigate the self esteem level in women with husbands affected by substance dependency disorder and to study the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioural group therapy on increasing the self esteem level in this people. For this reason, 30 women with husbands affected by substance dependency disorder were selected by available sampling and were divided into two experimental and control groups. Rosenberg self esteem scale was used for gathering the data and pre-test post-test plan with control group was utilized for assessing the efficacy of this therapeutic method. The data were analyzed by the analysis of covariance test. Data analysis showed the reduction in self esteem of women with husbands affected by substance dependency disorder, and the effectiveness of cognitive behavioural group therapy on increasing their self esteem. These findings suggest the practical importance of cognitive behavioural group therapy.
