Abstract

The current study aimed to verify the effectiveness of a preventive group-counseling program to avoid exposure to electronic blackmail and addiction to electronic games among students of the upper basic stage. A measurement of electronic extortion and addiction to electronic games was defined and a preventive counseling program was built. The sample of the study consisted of (265) students, (24) students were selected as the sample of the counseling program, divided into: an experimental group (12) students, and (12) students in the control group. The results showed that the level of being exposed to electronic extortion and addiction to electronic games was moderate. The results showed as well that the members of the experimental group improved their ability to deal with electronic extortion and decreased their addiction to electronic games compared with the control group. The study recommended using the current counseling program to help students, preventively, sbefore being exposed to electronic extortion or getting addicted to electronic games.
