Abstract

Nowadays, dental glass-ceramics are experiencing remarkable development in terms of aesthetics and hardness. New materials with high fracture resistance were developed and can be obtained by milling ceramic blocks or by heat-pressing prefabricated ceramic ingots. This paper aims to evaluate the effect of thermocycling (10,000 cycles) on the microhardness and roughness of two zirconia reinforced lithium silicate glass-ceramics (ZLS) obtained using two different processes, milling, and heat-pressing ceramic. The tested ZLS ceramics behaved differently to the aging and surface treatments. The milled ZLS ceramic was more affected by the aging process. Glazed samples presented higher surface roughness and higher microhardness compared to the polished samples before and after thermocycling.
