Abstract

In order to investigate the impact characteristics of the reflection shock wave loading on the foam material, this paper deduced the reflection wave theory of shock wave. Some experiments to study the effect of parameters based on the shock tube experiment platform were done, including the density, the geometric parameters, and the sealed metal plate strength. The experimental results demonstrated that when the shock wave hit the foam material, as the specimen length raised as the velocity of the first reflected shock wave accelerated. Furthermore, the velocity of the reflection shock wave was increased with the specimen density went up. When a metal plate was enclosed at the top of the foam material, an obvious increment in the strength of the first reflected wave was observed, the strength of the reflected wave exhibited more stable, as the metal plate strength increasing. Moreover, the experimental results were consistent with the theoretical results. The research in this paper can provides some reference and guidance for using foam material to effectively mitigate the damage of shock wave.
