Abstract

It is pointed out that the inclusion of the counter-rotating terms into the Jaynes-Cummings model with cavity losses changes the dynamical and steady-state behaviour of the decaying system to the extent that a prevention of the total atomic deexcitation, leading to novel steady states, occurs. Numerical and analytic results demonstrate the significance of the counter-rotating terms in both high- and low-Q cavities.
