Abstract

Abstract The anisotropy, ferromagnetic resonance linewidth and g-factor of nickel ferrite may be discussed in terms of the distribution of the cations within the lattice. It is shown that the anisotropy constant K 1 of A-site Ni2+ ions is about 6 × 106 erg cm−3 while the temperature variation of both this K 1, and the resonance linewidth of the nickel ferrite is consistent with an angular dependence of the energy levels of a ground state multiplet for these ions. It is seen that, contrary to previous suggestions, the g-factor is not a simple function of the magnetic moment of the ferrite.
