Abstract
This is an analysis of the terrain factors affecting logging forwarder mobility and output. Data from several studies in Finland have been combined and subjected to intensive mathematical analysis. The relative significance of several terrain and operating factors in controlling logging forwarder output has been determined. Regression models of forwarder driving speeds and outputs were tested and proved valid as compared with actual practice. The need to take both terrain and machine design into account in predicting costs for a forwarding operation operation is emphasized.
