Abstract

The effect of traces of hydrogen sulphide and of sulphur dioxide on the oxidation of methane over supported precious metals has been examined. Both gases inhibited catalytic oxidation over Pd and Rh, apparently as a result of sulphate formation. However, the catalytic activity of platinum was slightly enhanced by the pollutants.
