Abstract
In the recovery of uranium from wet-process phosphoric acid by solvent extraction, the coextraction of iron often results in an impure uranium product. A mathematical model, based on experimental data, has been developed which can adequately predict the Fe/U ratio in the DEPA—TOPO—kerosene phase for a given Fe(III) concentration in the second-cycle feed acid and the concentrations of DEPA and uranium in the extract. This model is particularly useful for predicting the purity of the ammonium uranyl tricarbonate product derived from the second-cycle extract of the conventional two-cycle DEPA—TOPO extraction process.
