Abstract

AbstractA model of the α‐γ transition in Ce1−xRx alloys where R is a rare earth is presented which is based on the Ramirez‐Falikov (RF) zone model. It is shown that the decrease in the temperature region of the α‐γ transition in cerium when impurities are added depends in particular on the spin degeneracy (2J + 1) of the impurity element ion. The amount of the impurity added affects the conditions under which the α‐γ transition of type I in pure Ce proves to be a transition of type II in Ce1−xRx alloys. A comparison with experimental results is given.
