Abstract

The current study focuses on the influence of pre-straining on the precipitation behavior of Al-1.0at.%Mn-1.7at.%Mg alloy. The Mn-bearing quasicrystalline-structured dispersoids of the I-phase precipitated heterogeneously at dislocations and grain boundaries during annealing at 300–350 °C. The hardness and in situ electrical resistance measurements during annealing of the as-cast and pre-strained samples confirmed the significant strain-induced acceleration in precipitation kinetics. Pre-straining increased the number density of the quasicrystalline-structured precipitates and the hardnening effect after annealing.
