Abstract

This study aims to determine mutual influence on blast furnace slag, fly ash and cement with added trass with Portland cement. For this purpose, physical, chemical, XRD, FT-IR, zeta (electrokinetic) potential and standard cement tests were applied to materials. In this study, it is shown that physical characteristics of pozzolan mostly depend on their molecular structures. Properties of molecular structure, in addition to its chrystal and amorphous character, change based on the existence of its chemical elements. In turn this effects the electrokinetic properties. Portland cement and pozzolans have different zeta potentials because they contain positive and negative atom and group of atoms. Therefore, the interaction of positive charge particles with the negative charge particles results in initially weak but later strong connections. Also it is shown that although the pozzolans are in agreement with Portland cement as zeta potential, their compressive strength differs due to differences in their fineness.
