Abstract
Abstract The effect of phase fluctuation on absorption and dispersion in a ∨-type, three-level atomic system has been analyzed. It is shown that the refractive index enhancement tends to decrease for driving fields of finite linewidth. Furthermore, for the case of zero incoherent pumpings, the transparency of the medium occurring for zero detunings is destroyed when the linewidth is not zero.
