Abstract

The effect of interference in the substrate on the polarization transformation of an electromagnetic wave in the presence of cyclotron resonance in a two-dimensional (2D) electron system is studied theoretically. It is predicted that the interference can dramatically enhance the transformation if the 2D electron system is situated on the rear face of a quarter-wave substrate plate. As a result, the reflected wave exhibits a virtually complete polarization transformation.
